“Green Roofs, Living Walls and Rain Gardens:BC Business Exports Innovative Technology to North America. For Landscape Architects, the Sky is the Limit!”
In his April 2014 article in Sitelines, a BCSLA publication, Randy Sharp of Sharp & Diamond acknowledges BC Landscape Architects for their success over the past 50 years in living architecture and green roof design. The entire issue is dedicated to the innovations the industry has created.
Page 14 mentions the urban gardens run by SOLEfood farms – Denbow installed soil into the unique raised planters by blower truck.
Read on to page 16 & 17, and Denbow’s technical project coordinator, David Adkins, writes about “The Dynamics of Bio-Engineering and Green Infrastructure”. Let us know what you think or if you have questions about our green infrastructure products.
The Chilliwack Adopt a Road program was initiated by a local Scouts troop, the TCS Rosedale Scouts, and has expanded to include many other local organizations. Under the Adopt a Road program, organizations and non-profit groups contribute to the community by cleaning litter from local roads on a regular basis.
As part of our commitment to community, Denbow has adopted a road near our facility in Chilliwack. Craig and Todd took care of the road recently, collecting bags of litter. Great job, guys!
Educational Mini Barn
With farms off limits to visitors due to biosecurity protocols, the BC Chicken Growers’ Association, in partnership with the BC Broiler Hatching Egg Producers’ Association, has developed Poultry in Motion™, a mobile mini barn, in an effort to increase public awareness and educate consumers. This fully equipped mini barn has been featured at fairs, schools and agriculture events around the province.
The trailer consists of three sections, showing two life stages of broilers, plus their parent stock – the breeders. Each section is set up as a very small scale poultry barn, showing you how poultry farming is done in BC. The pictures in the background are from farms in the Fraser Valley.

We continue to enjoy the Chicken Squad episodes!
Episode 2 – “Feeding the Province” While at the auditions for the movie “Chicken Squad” local farmers talk about what it means to them to raise chicken for the people of BC. Sandra Middelburg mentions that the chickens are on comfortable sawdust – we supply that sawdust.
Episode 3 – “Tackling the Myths” Local BC chicken farmers speak candidly about misconceptions and myths they have to confront when sharing with people about what they do for a living.
We have been digging deep into our storage areas here at the Denbow office… spring cleaning! It’s fun to see how things have changed as we have grown and technology has advanced. We have discovered some extinct technology in the closets that have given us a blast from the past. Some younger staff members here don’t even know what the first item is – do you??!
We have a big load of old stuff to take to the recyclers!
Last month we shared with you the Chicken Squad trailer, featuring some of our chicken farmers.
Here is Chicken Squad Episode 1, a hilarious behind-the-scenes look at the auditions! Check it out:
