Many years ago, Bill was given some sound advice that he took to heart and applied, allowing him to build a business while investing in and growing people. He was told that to move forward, he should
“Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you”.
He did that, and it has lead Bill and Denbow down a path that could not have happened if he had continued to try to do it all himself. Bill has encouraged the Denbow leadership team to continue to follow this practice – and it has enabled us to develop individual talents in the smart people that we work with.
This quote from chef Mario Batali includes advice along the same lines:
“One of the most important leadership lessons is realizing you’re not the most important or the most intelligent person in the room at all time.”
